Nonlinear dynamics and stability
The Windyn Research Group has been dealing extensively with nonlinear dynamics and stability problems.
Reduced-order linear and nonlinear models have been introduced to schematize the static and dynamic behaviour of cables, chimneys and tower buildings.
The main applications concern the analysis of aeroelastic stability, including bifurcation and post-critical behaviour analyses. Analytical solutions are generally obtained based on a joint use of a Galerkin discretization of the equations and of a perturbation analysis of the nonlinear problem.
The stability analysis of thin-walled beams has also been performed, within the Generalized Beam Theory, proposing a new cross-section analysis specifically suited for nonlinear elastic thin-walled beams.
